Semi-Private Personal Training in Toronto
Train with a partner, friend or family member, share one certified trainer and split the cost of the hour between you. Sessions happen at your home or in your condo gym across Toronto and the GTA, depending on trainer availability.
2 people · 1 trainer What Is Semi-Private Personal Training?
Semi-private personal training is a session where one trainer works with two people at the same time. It sits between one-on-one training and a group class. You still get a program written for you and a trainer who corrects your form as you go. The difference is that someone you know is training next to you.
At Trainer Pro, semi-private means exactly two people. We don’t run small groups of four or six, because past two the trainer can no longer watch every rep closely.
Semi-Private vs One-on-One Training
| One-on-one | Semi-private (two people) | |
|---|---|---|
| People per session | 1 | 2 |
| Price | From $68 CAD per one-hour session (3–6 month packages) | From $91 CAD per hour for both people |
| Program | Fully individual | Shared session, adjusted for each person's goals and level |
| Trainer attention | 100% on you | Split between two, with exercises alternated so neither person waits long |
| Scheduling | Your calendar only | Two calendars to line up |
| Best for | Injury recovery, very specific goals, people who prefer privacy | Pairs who want accountability and a lower cost per person |
If one of you is coming back from an injury or has a goal the other doesn’t share, start with one-on-one sessions. You can switch to semi-private later.
Who Partner Personal Training Works For

Couples
Couples are the obvious pair. Once there's a set time on both your calendars, skipping means letting the other person down. That's usually enough to get you both off the couch.

Friends and Workout Partners
It doesn't have to be a couple, though. Roommates book it. So do neighbours on the same floor, and coworkers who'd rather train than grab another drink after work. Cancelling is harder when someone else is already in their gym clothes, and the last set goes easier with somebody next to you groaning through it too.

Parents and Adult Children
Training with your mom or dad gets them moving and gives you an hour a week together that isn't spent on the phone. Your trainer scales each exercise, so a 40-year-old and a 70-year-old can get through the same session at their own level.

Senior Couples
For older couples, the big win is not going anywhere. No Gardiner traffic, and no circling the lot for parking in January. The work itself is balance, leg strength and mobility, plus the things that matter day to day, like standing up from a chair without using your hands or getting the groceries in from the car.

One Plan, Two Sets of Goals
Before the first workout, your trainer asks each of you about goals, injuries and experience. Then they build one session that works for both. If one of you wants to lose weight and the other wants to get stronger, the warm-up and many exercises stay the same while sets, reps and loads change. When an exercise doesn't suit one person, the trainer gives that person an alternative.
Partner Exercises a Trainer Might Use
Some sessions can include partner exercises that only work with two people: resistance band rows where one partner anchors the band, mirrored lunges, and timed intervals where one person works while the other rests. They keep the hour moving and make the couple workout feel less like a routine. Most of the session is still standard strength and conditioning work, coached individually.
Where You Can Train: Home or Condo Gym
Your trainer comes to you, whether that’s your living room, your basement or your building’s gym. You don’t need equipment to start. The plan is built around what you have, even if that’s a mat and some floor space, and your trainer may suggest a few simple pieces later.
Check your building's guest and amenity booking rules before the first session.

How Much Does Semi-Private Personal Training Cost?
Semi-private sessions start at $91 CAD per hour for both people. For comparison, one-on-one training starts at $68 CAD per one-hour session on 3–6 month packages. Splitting a semi-private hour means each person pays less than they would for a private session. Your first session is free.

For most pairs, yes. You get a program and coaching from a certified trainer at a lower cost per person than one-on-one sessions, and having a partner makes it easier to stay consistent. If you need fully individual attention, for example after an injury, one-on-one is the better fit.
That's normal. The trainer keeps the session structure the same and changes the weight, reps or exercise version for each person. A beginner and an experienced lifter can train in the same hour.
No. Any two people can book semi-private training: friends, siblings, coworkers, a parent and an adult child.
Usually, yes. Many buildings allow outside trainers, but rules vary. Check your building's policy on guests and trainers before your first session.
Give at least 12 hours' notice. Late cancellations and no-shows can be charged up to the full session cost, so tell us early and we'll try to move the session. The team will explain how this works with your package before you sign up.
Once a week is fine to start. Two a week works better once it fits both of your schedules. Your trainer may suggest more or less depending on your goals.
Semi-private sessions are available in many GTA areas, but coverage depends on trainer availability. Call +1 (647) 775-0775 with your address and we'll tell you whether a trainer can come to you.
